Gingerbread Houses – Carbon Positive, Sustainable Glamping in the Lake District, Cumbria

Our Gingerbread Houses at The Quiet Site provide quirky, comfortable glamping accommodation in the heart of the Lake District, Cumbria.  Sited to enjoy lovely views across Ullswater and the surrounding fells, each Gingerbread House sleeps up to two adults and four children.

In line with our sustainable ethos at our small holiday park, our Gingerbread Houses are carbon positive with a PV panelled roof, triple insulation and ground source heating, and ‘wrapped’ in a ginger beech hedge.

Outside each Gingerbread House, there is a covered patio with a flat area for portable BBQs and a picnic table which allows you to cook, admire the view and shelter from our Cumbrian weather (should it be less than perfect during your Lake District holiday).

What to expect when you book a glamping stay at The Quiet Site

Sustainable Glamping in a Gingerbread House

Holidays should not cost the earth. Gingerbread Houses produce more energy than they use so have a positive effect on the worlds environment.

Our hugely popular Glamping Burrows (formally Hobbit Holes) were the starting point in our thinking. Gingerbread Houses boast all that works well in a Glamping Burrow being simple, warm and comfortable, with a large covered deck and private facilities. To this we have added a full-size shower, a simple kitchen and the ability to generate its own power. Heating is provided by a remote ground source heat pump and electricity is generated from their solar PV panel roofs.

The simplicity of this accommodation and lack of soft furnishings lends itself to an ease of cleaning and fogging that makes it incredibly safe.

They are wrapped in a lovely beach hedge so will become virtually invisible – unless you know where to look! These hedges will become vital to helping our site become more biodiverse.
