Guided fell walking

Two days guided walking in one of England’s most beautiful valleys with a fully qualified guide.  You’ll be encouraged to take in the gorgeous.

Nicky Merrett is excited to show you some secrets in the Ullswater Valley on your Craft and Hiking Holiday.  Nicky lives high above Glenridding in the shadows of Helvellyn, and these mountains are her playground, along with her 4 children and grandchildren.  Her family originate from Patterdale at the head of the Ullswater, and it is her passion to discover every corner of the valley as her grandparents did, and to share this with visitors who hike with her.  Red Deer and Herdwicks are her friends whilst out hiking alone and she spends many hours in the hills to watch these glorious native animals and will happily share her knowledge with her hikers.  As a qualified and experienced Mountain Leader, Nicky gives confidence to those not familiar with our typical Lakeland terrain to push their boundaries just that little bit further.  Nicky understands some hikers may feel vulnerable if hiking in unfavourable weather conditions & will always make the hiking journey pleasurable and interesting with a little guidance along the way.  Fingers crossed for snow capped mountain tops for your valley hikes in January.  Our routes will be determined by the weather on the day, and will be between 8km & 10km weaving around the Ullswater Valley.

Felting

Two days of felting with Jane Firth of Ullswater Felt Art.   Jane will ensure you learn the basics and you’ll leave having created your own unique felt picture.

Jane is fibre artist who works from a studio overlooking Ullswater.  She buys fleeces from local farmers and processes them herself to create the materials she uses for her landscapes and animal portraits. By carrying out every step from fleece to picture herself, she has gained an intimate knowledge of how different fleeces behave and how to create the effects she wants.

Accommodation – Gingerbread Houses

Our quirky Gingerbread Houses are cosy and warm in winter, thanks to great insulation and sustainably powered under-floor heating.  Each Gingerbread House has a private WC, shower and basin and simple kitchen with fridge, microwave, kettle and sink.  You just need to bring your camping utensils and sleeping bag.

Delicious food will be provided from our own kitchen tailored throughout your stay, and can be tailored to your dietary needs.
