General Information

Are you  open all year? Yes

What are your check-in and check-out times?
Check-in for Glamping is from 3 pm. (4 pm Glamping Cabins).  Check-out is by 10.30 am. 

Check-in for all pitches is from 12 midday, and check-out is by 12 midday. 

When is  the Reception  and Shop open ?   Sunday to Thursday 9 am – 6 pm,  Friday 9 am – 8.00 pm. Emails are answered in the evening. 

Do we have WiFi?  Yes.  Free WiFi covers the whole park.  It is usually fast enough to stream. 

Can we be accessed by Public Transport?   Yes. Our closest station is Penrith North Lakes. Take the 508 or 509 to Ullswater (25 mins) and leave the bus at The Brackenrigg Inn.  Call our office and we will pop down and get you! 

Do you allow dogs or other pets?  We offer dog-friendly options for Glamping Burrows, Camping Pods, and Gingerbread Houses.   Dogs are not permitted in our Glamping Cabins.  You may bring dogs in your own units on our pitches.   Dogs must be kept on a lead and cleaned up after. We have access to a dog walking field from March to October. During the winter months, dogs need to be exercised responsibly off site. Anyone not picking up will be asked to leave. 

Can I charge my car?  Yes. We have two 11KW chargers available. 69p/KWh

Is the park accessible for guests with limited mobility?
Yes, we have accessible facilities and accommodation. Please check with our team so we can recommend the most suitable options. 

What is the best way to get to the park?   M6 junction 40, A66 for Keswick, A592 for Ullswater. Turn right at the lake junction and turn right again at the Brackenrigg Inn. We are on the right after 1.5 miles.   Large tourers of motorhomes, please continue past the Brackenrigg Inn and take the next right turn signposted Watermillock Church.  Continue past the church and take the next turning right (signposted The Quiet Site).  We are on the left. 

What is the best way to leave the park?  Turn right out of the site and left at the T junction, down to the lakeside road. 

Bookings & Payments

What is your cancellation policy  Cancellations made before 14 days of arrival receive a refund or credit option. Within 14 days, charges may apply. 

Do you offer group bookings?  We will take two units, but reserve the right to charge a noise deposit.   If there are three units in your group, then one or more of you will have needed to stay before. Please phone or email to discuss.  

Can I amend my booking?   In most cases, yes — subject to availability. Please contact us as soon as possible.

How do I redeem a 3rd party gift voucher?    Email us with the Voucher code and PIN number along with the date you require. 

Touring & Camping

Are electric hook-ups available?
Yes, all pitches have electric hook up.  We provide a fair usage of between 8 and 14 kWh per day, depending on the season. If you exceed this amount, the excess will be charged at 29p/kWh.  All pitches (except 4) have drinking water taps, Grey water drains and Electric hook-ups. 

Are fire pits and BBQs allowed?  Raised, contained BBQs are allowed, but not with a naked flame. Fire pits/open fires are not permitted. 

Is grey water and chemical toilet disposal available?  Yes, we have designated disposal points for guests’ use.  We have a motorhome service point. 

Can specific pitches be booked?   No.  We will, however always try to place a guest as near to their preferred area as possible. 

Do we offer grass pitches?  No. We offer pitches with a pea gravel surface.  These all-weather pitches do not get muddy. We can loan out groundsheets to cover the gravel.

 

Glamping

Which Glamping units have a real bed?  The Glamping Cabins have a sprung mattress with white linen. 

Do the Glamping units have heating?   Yes, they are all heated.

When is the Bar open?  4 pm – 10 pm every day of the year.

What Glamping options are available?   Glamping Burrows, Glamping Cabins, Gingerbread Houses, and Camping Pods

 

The Quiet Bar

When is the Bar open?  4 pm – 10 pm every day of the year.
Do I have to be staying at The Quiet Site to use the bar?  No, the bar is open to the local community.
Are dogs allowed in the is the Bar ?  Yes, as long as the dogs behave and don’t continuously bark.
Can tables be booked?  No 

 

The Quiet Bite

Is the Quiet Bite open all year?  Yes every day except Christmas day.

Can Pizzas be pre-ordered?  No.  All pizzas are cooked freshly to order and take between 5 and 15 minutes.

Can Pizzas be served in cardboard boxes? No.  All pizzas are served on china plates. 

Do we offer vegan Pizza?   Yes.

Do we offer gluten free Pizza?  No (Sadly, we can’t cook customers own gluten-free pizza bases).

Where do you eat our Pizza?   You can either eat in our bar, at your own accommodation or at the many picnic tables dotted around. 

 

Safety & Security

Do you have on-site security?  Yes, we have wardens and CCTV for your safety.

What should I do in an emergency?   Dial 999 for emergency services and notify our duty warden or reception.

Facilities

What facilities are on the park?  We offer a shop, food takeaway,  laundry room, bar, showers and WC’s, dog/boot wash, chemical waste and a small play field Please check opening times as they may vary by season.

Is the bar open all year?   Yes.

Is the Quiet Bite open all year?  Yes, except Christmas day.

Do you have EV charging points? Yes, EV chargers are available on-site (charges apply).

Do you have a shop onsite?  Yes, our shop stocks essential groceries, camping supplies, and local produce.

Do you have a campers kitchen?  Yes.  It has toasters, kettles, microwaves, fridges and freezers.

Do tables for the Quiet Bite or Quiet Bar need to be booked?  Tables do not need to be booked and generally there is good availability.  Live music in the bar are busy. 

Does the bar offer food?  No, but pizza from The Quiet Bite can be eaten in the bar.

What time are the services cleaned?   Because the services consist of 20 individual shower/basin/WC rooms, they are never fully closed. If you come across our housekeeping team, just move on to the next vacant room. 

 

Background

Who operates The Quiet Site?  We have been owned and run by the Holder family for 40 years. We are now a 3rd generation business. 

Is The Quiet Site well-known?   Yes. We have been awarded the best Holiday park in Britain by Visit England (2023),  The AA (2024) and  the best Glampsite in Britain by Mumsnet in 2025.   We won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2020 and a King’s Award for Enterprise in 2024.   In 2025 the AA recognised us as the most Sustainable Holiday Park in Britain. 

Are we an ethical company?   We try very hard to be so.  Profits have been reinvested back into our company for two decades. We are a founding member SITU (Sustainable Integrated Transport Ullswater), which is responsible for new bus services, walking routes and cycle ways. We generate the majority of our own energy, sustainably on site and have virtually removed fossil fuel from our operation. We operate as part of our community.
